In 1927, a local minister, Reverend Theodore Grob, Sr., recognized a need in the Wabash Valley — affordable goods for families and meaningful work for individuals with disabilities and special needs. Inspired by the early Goodwill model, he founded Wabash Valley Goodwill in the parsonage of Calvary Methodist Church, where he served as minister.
From the beginning, the approach was practical and purposeful: donated items were repaired and sold at low cost, creating jobs while funding training and support services. This early “sheltered workshop” model reflected a belief that still defines Goodwill today — work is a pathway to dignity, independence, and belonging.
Reverend Grob led the organization for more than four decades before passing leadership to his son, Ted Grob, Jr., in 1968. Over the years, new leaders carried the mission forward, guiding Goodwill through growth and change while staying rooted in its founding purpose.
Today, Wabash Valley Goodwill is part of a global Goodwill network and one of many locally governed organizations working to help people with disabilities and other barriers to employment enter the economic mainstream. While the programs and scale have evolved, the heart of the work remains the same: creating opportunity through the power of work — right here in the Wabash Valley.

Many individuals face challenges that make employment difficult—from disabilities and limited experience to life disruptions and lack of access to opportunity. Wabash Valley Goodwill exists to bridge that gap.
Through job training, career services, and real-world work opportunities, we help individuals move forward with skills, support, and purpose—creating stronger families, a more inclusive workforce, and healthier communities across the Wabash Valley.
